The bicycle ferry MS Rødsand is operating between Denmark and Germany again
There was reason to cheer in May when Gerhard Jacobsen, the initiator and project manager of the cross-border bicycle ferry, and the Cykelfærgen Circle of Friends got the good news. They received the green light from the authorities to start sailing towards Germany again after the ferry was only allowed to sail in Danish waters in the coronavirus year 2020.
From June 25, 2021, hikers and cyclists will finally once more have the opportunity to use the bicycle ferry on the Flensburg Fjord for their cross-border excursions and tours. The new timetable for the 2021 season offers a wide range of possible combinations. Starting from Denmark, the MS Rødsand runs four times a day from Egernsund, via Marina Minde, Brunsnæs to Langballigau (Germany) and back again towards Brunsnæs, Marina Minde and Egernsund (Denmark). In addition, tours from Egernsund to Flensburg via Sønderhav are offered every Friday. The small town across from the two Ox Islands was added to the timetable last year. Known under the nickname Hot Dog Havn because of Annies kiosk, it is a popular meeting place for German and Danish bikers, cycling fans and hiking enthusiasts. Its our third season and weve fought hard to be allowed to sail again. We are therefore very glad to be able to offer our trips in the border region again in 2021. Of course, everything also depends on the further development of the pandemic. However, we are confident that we can meet our schedule by August 15. Depending on developments and demand, we would also be ready to extend the season. So, keep your fingers crossed and hope for a great summer, said Gerhard Jacobsen. The bicycle ferry provides space for 12 people and 12 bicycles.[image]In addition to the regular timetable, the bicycle ferry can be booked daily from 4:00 p.m. for three-hour event trips with up to 12 people. The demand is high. Especially after the long lockdown, the offer is often used by our guests for private celebrations, but also by many clubs and companies. There are still vacancies, says Gerhard Jacobsen happily.Ticket sales have started on our homepage.
